Weingut Clemens Busch Pundericher Marienberg Riesling Spatlese 2022

Clemens is the 5th-generation winemaker at his family estate and began using organic practices in 1984. Later a pioneer in biodynamics, Clemens Busch is now a role model for natural, but precise German winemaking. Unlike most of the Mosel region, however, Clemens focuses on dry, elegant Rieslings that express the complex terroir of this historic region. Their unique soils in the town of Pndericherallow them to produce many iterations of the Riesling grape. Clemens Busch is based on the 3 types of slate red, blue and grey each imparting different characteristics and styling.

The 2022 Pndericher Marienburg Sptlese is made from very ripe, healthy grapes that are not yet botrytized. The nose takes a while to open up but gives more and more away of its subtle apple and lemon, coming with just a touch of passion fruit. The palate is intense but absolutely clear-cut. The acidity gives it the intensity of sorbet - sweetened but ice cold, with intensified fruit, but exquisitely refreshing. Lovely. Long, always with that tang of passion fruit.
