The Hasami porcelain chopstick rests are crafted using a seashell-shaped mold originally used to makerakugan, a traditional Japanese confectionery.

After an initial ten layers of natural lacquer, shell inlays are placed on the surface. Then, twenty more coats are applied for added shine and durability. Immaculately polished, the mother-of-pearl inlays shine softly on red lacquer and create a contrasting glimmer on black lacquer.
