Jack Daniel's story began with the orphan Jasper "Jack" Newton Daniel, who learned whiskey-making from the enslaved master distiller Nearest Green at the Reverend Dan Call's distillery. In 1866, Jack established the first registered distillery in the United States in Lynchburg, Tennessee.
